Imagine That stars Eddie Murphy as the Denver version of a Wall Street trader, attached to his BlackBerry, separated from his wife, and struggling to relate to his only child. While reluctantly doing his weekly custodial stint, he realizes that his daughter’s imaginary friends are giving her legit stock tips via her fuzzy purple blanket. His career takes off, but he soon he realizes his little girl thinks he values her blanket more than he does his time with her. Does he skip the big meeting to go to her “Fall Sing” concert? Gee, I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you. The movie has some laugh-out-loud moments, but the talk of corporate success and securities trading is incomprehensible to any child young enough to enjoy the rest of the movie.

(No kid young enough to buy into the movie will understand that Murphy is risking his job.)

(Murphy and his young co-star have great chemistry, and their scenes of make-believe together are by far the best part of the movie.)
