In The Supremes Edition of our XX Gabfest this week, Hanna and Meghan and I talk about (of course) Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Also a new study showing that women are more unhappy, not less, 30 years after the sexual revolution, and why Terminator Salvation has such lame female action stars. Female action heroes

A few years ago I found myself watching True Lies on TV (a nasty, misogynistic and racist movie) and quietly bemoaned the Jamie Lee Curtis character: "What happened to the great female action characters like Sarah Connor or Ripley". After a pause, I realised that James Cameron had been responsible for all three characters (with help from Ridley Scott), plus a couple of go-to types in the Abyss.
It's no surprise to me that McG can't produce good female action heroes, if Cameron stopped 15 years ago.
