A friend of mine just directed my attention to the cover of the most recent J. Crew catalog. Is it just me, or does that flower look like something out of a production of Little Shop of Horrors, as designed by a gang of feminist psychoanalysts? (NSFW, if you happen to work in a literature or art history department.)

flowers are big reproductive organs. its amazing how they do in actuality without much effort replicate the reproductive organs of animals. i am looking at an orchid on my desk as i write this and one could easily see the features of the flower that resemble human sexual anatomy.

As a guy, I think I would enjoy the catalogs more if I was able to interpret female anatomy in inanimate objects. Maybe it is a special talent like those people who seek to find the image of Mary in the knots of wood, or in the shadows of the wall. I think I need to try harder.

And I personally don't think it's "bad," I think it's sort of weird and awesome.

It's just a flower. That happens to look a like a vulva. Not quite little shop of horrors material.
